Mississippi Highway Patrol ends Labor Day travel period

The Mississippi Highway Patrol ended its Labor Day travel period at midnight after activating it over the weekend for the holiday. The MHP issued 6,635 citations over the weekend. The citations included 186 DUI arrests, 330 seatbelt citations, and 113 child restraint citations. MHP also investigated 146 motor vehicle crashes with 54 injuries and six fatalities. MSDH reports 704 new COVID-19 cases and 21 deaths statewide

Today, the Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 704 cases of COVID-19 in the state along with 21 new deaths. Of those deaths, six occurred between September 4th and September 6th and 15 occurred between August 4th and September 1st. The state’s total of cases is now at 453,348 along with 8,685 deaths.
