New CodeRED emergency notification system in Ocean Springs

The City of Ocean Springs has officially launched a new platform to allow the city to more easily communicate with residents.

The CodeRED emergency notification system allows the city to send phone calls, text messages, emails, posts to social media, and mobile app messages to inform residents of emergencies.

The alert system in equipped with a weather warning system that notifies those in affected areas of tornados, flash floods, and severe thunderstorm warnings.

Additionally, residents can opt in for alerts about festivals and events and temporary road closures and traffic issues. Ocean Springs Mayor Kenny Holloway said, “We realized that not everybody does Facebook and we realize that not everyone follows the web page and so we needed another way to get our message out to the public. And we just felt that this was a good way to do it.”

To sign up for the alert system text ‘ocean springs’ to 99411 or visit and click ‘code red’ emergency notifications.
