Governor Tate Reeves and Accelerate Mississippi Executive Director Ryan Miller held a press conference today on the state’s efforts to better organize and develop workforce development strategy. Today, MSDH is reporting an additional 1,098 cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi and 50 deaths. Twenty-eight deaths occurred between August 26th and September 28th. Twenty-two deaths occurred between May 25th and September 24th, identified from death certificate reports. Mississippi’s total number of COVID-19 cases is now 487,293 with 9,588 deaths. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is hosting a spaghetti benefit today. All of the proceeds will benefit fallen deputy Robert Verzal’s family. Thirty-nine-year-old Corporal Verzal passed away after several weeks in the hospital battling COVID. It is $10 a plate and includes spaghetti, salad, bread, and dessert.
