9/6 – Payton’s Thursday Afternoon Forecast

Moisture wrapping around from the remnants of Gordon is helping produce heavy showers and thunderstorms across the area today. These are dropping very heavy rainfall, and producing a lot of ponding on roadways. By tomorrow we start to make a transition back to our summertime pattern with hot and humid afternoon with the chance for popup showers and thunderstorms. This continues into the weekend. Not everyone will see rain, but there will be a chance.

TROPICS: The tropics will remain quiet in our area, but out in the Atlantic it’s really heating up. Hurricane Florence is battling shear right now, and there is still a lot of uncertainty with the track. Invest 92-L is near the Cabo Verde Islands and will likely become Helene over the next several days. This system is far out there and the track of Florence will influence the track of this system. So right now it’s too early to know where it will go. It’s far out there so plenty of time to keep an eye on it. Another disturbance behind Invest 92
