01/15 Ryan’s “Arctic Front” Monday Forecast

Today may have been within a hair of 60 degrees, but a nearby Arctic front is bringing much colder and drier air as well as the small chance of wintry weather. It’ll cool to around 40 degrees on the waterfront tonight with light winds and moderate humidity, and the effects of the front will begin being felt tomorrow morning but will increase drastically around noon. Over the next 6-8 hours the front will slowly move through the area, and this is when we see the highest chances of rain, wintry mix, and even a few snow flurries. The Northern coastal counties (George, Stone, Pearl River) are under a winter weather advisory and will definitely see some form frozen precipitation, but the Southern coastal counties (Harrison, Hancock, Jackson) will be right on the rain/snow line and have a much lower chance. Regardless, travel during this time will be unsafe as roads will be wet and cold only becoming more dangerous through the overnight hours while the temperature plummets into the mid-to-upper 20s. By 10 PM Wednesday all the active weather will have moved East, and we’ll be left with considerably drier air than we saw today, cold/sunny days, and at least two brutally cold nights (Tuesday/Wednesday) under a Hard Freeze Warning. The Arctic front’s effects won’t last though, and we’ll be cloudy and humid again by the weekend with temperatures barely South of 70.
