8/22 – Payton’s Tuesday Afternoon Forecast

Back to normal around South Mississippi with showers and thunderstorms each and everyday. The best chances for showers and thunderstorms will remain in the morning over the waters and along the coast, and then chances move inland throughout the morning and afternoon hours. A cold front, along with upper level low will continue to approach the area and that means rain chances will be going up as we head into the end of the week.

The remnants of tropical storm Harvey continue to try and reform as they approach the Gulf of Mexico. Models are now taking the system into central portions of the Texas Coast, but there is still some uncertainty with the exact track and strength.  One thing we do know is we will likely feel the affects of the moisture here in South Mississippi, and that means potentially heavy and flooding rains as we go into the weekend and the beginning of next week. The system will likely then move to the northeast as it moves inland, and that means the moisture and rain will stick around. This is something we will keep a very close eye on as we head into the weekend and next week. Overall just be prepared for heavy rain as the weekend approaches.
