8/31 – Rob’s Final Day of August Forecast
Once again showers have developed over the coastal areas of the forecast area. As the sun comes out expect more convection to develop over land areas. Expect another wet day across the forecast area as this wet pattern ramps up and continues through next week. A slow moving inverted trough of low pressure in the upper levels will continue to drift west through the weekend. A plume of deep tropical moisture associated with this trough will also remain in place across the Gulf South. This will allow for the chance of heavy rainfall with any convection that we receive this weekend.
The concern for heavy rain is being highlighted this weekend as portions of the forecast area will be in a Marginal Risk for Excessive Rainfall for Saturday and Sunday.
Most areas should generally see rainfall totals of around an inch each day, but localized spots could see a quick 2 to 3 inches of rain fall in a few hours’ time. This could cause some localized flooding in some areas.
