7/4 – Rob Knight’s ID4 Morning forecast

Dry air has intruded and precip numbers will be coming down today and Friday. There will still be a slight chance of showers/t-storms and one may develop during the evening hours but overall, most areas should stay dry. Without the shade and cooling rains, temps will climb well into the 90s and heat index values will also rise. At the moment, heat index values run around 103 today for many locations but could be as high as 107 for Jackson County. This is very uncomfortable and can still be dangerous if precautions are not taken. Heat advisory conditions look to be possible Friday and also Saturday. Heat index temps of should range between 106 and 109 Friday.

Looking into the new week…the infamous ring of fire revisits the area as the upper and mid-level high over the gulf backs off to the west and weak upper troughing develops over the southeast. This will bring some relief from the heat but it will also bring the threat of hazardous weather as normally transitioning from a dry environment to a deeper moist one allows thunderstorms to entrain this dry air aloft.
