7/20 – Rob Knight’s VERY HOT Weekend Forecast

The big thing for the next 3 to 4 days will be the heat. The warmest temps and heat index values of the season will begin today through at least Sunday but we may even see this linger into Monday. Sunday could be the warmest as we should encounter some strong subsidence ahead of an approaching front.

Confidence is high for the area to be at or above a heat index of 110F. A HEAT ADVISORY is in Effect through Sunday.

Basically the window for heating will be reduced farther east of I-55 today. But this forecast will not depend on cloud cover remaining through the period of max heating and it would not take long for numbers to be reached this afternoon. For this reason, the heat advisory has been extended over most of the area.

A cold front moves into and possibly through the area from the northeast Monday night into Tuesday. This will be the feature that will finally break the heat. It will also bring some showers/t-storms as well as cooler dew pt temps. Even though temps will still be warm, it will be relatively drier with dew-points in the mid and possibly lower 60s starting Tuesday and this will be noticeable.
