10/3 – Payton’s Tuesday Afternoon Forecast

Precipitation chances will begin to come down today as drier air located over northern Florida and Georgia begins to move into our area.  This will cap the environment and bring rain chances back to seasonal conditions. This won`t hold true for gulf offshore locations. Precipitation should stay low as we approach the weekend with a few passing showers possible from day to day.

An open tropical wave  near the Bahamas into the central Caribbean will move slowly west and into the gulf as early as Thursday night into Friday. The portion of this wave over the Caribbean will be the main portion of this feature. The portion of this wave north of the Greater Antilles is being shown by models to break away and move north into Florida while remaining rather weak. This will bring elevating rain potential for the weekend, and for the last day of the Gulfport Music Festival. Models continue to indicated development of low pressure near the Yucatan Peninsula this week, with the disturbance moving the north into the Gulf of Mexico. This could also bring increased rain chances into the weekend and next week. We will keep a close eye on this, and bring any updates as needed.
