9/23 – Payton’s Sunday Night Forecast

Fall is here and if you’re a fan of cooling temperatures and drier air, unfortunately there isn’t anything like that in the forecast. With a stalled frontal boundary to the north rain chances will continue as high pressure continues to pump moisture into the area. Another frontal boundary in the Midwest will start to makes its way down the plains this week and approach South Mississippi by Thursday. I don’t think it will make it all the way through the area, so temperatures will remain warm and rain chances will remain elevated throughout the week going into the weekend.

TROPICS:  The tropics have woken once again. Tropical Storm Kirk formed over the weekend and is moving toward the Caribbean. It is expected to weaken as it approaches the Lesser Antilles. Beyond that it doesn’t appear the system will do much, but we’ll keep a close eye on it as it moves into the Caribbean. Subtropical Storm Leslie is in the open Atlantic and won’t affect anyone. Another disturbance south of Bermuda has medium chance of development as it moves toward the East Coast. It will likely bring more rain for the Carolinas later this week. It’s not expected to strengthen much, but any rain for that area is problematic.
