9/17 – Payton’s Sunday Night Forecast

It was a hot & muggy weekend with occasional isolated showers and thunderstorms. This trend is going to continue throughout the week as high pressure continues to sit over the region. The tropics continue to be very active. Hurricane Jose continues to move northward off the East Coast. Areas in the northeast could see effects of the storm toward mid week. The center of the storm is forecasted to stay over water but gusty winds, rainfall and rough seas will be likely along the East Coast. Hurricane Maria continues to move toward the Lesser Antilles and eventually toward Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Unfortunately it is expected to impact these islands as a major hurricane. We are not expecting Hurricane Maria to impact South Mississippi. Tropical Depression Lee continues to dissipate, and is not expected to impact anyone. Have a great week!
