9/25 – Rob Knight’s “Hotter and HUMID” Afternoon Forecast

Well we continue to be dominated by high pressure at the surface and the ridge aloft. The forecast will stay hot and more humid as the moisture flow has begun. If this was June through early September we would likely be dealing with significant heat but luckily with the sun angle quickly decreasing we won’t have as much time to warm up. That said it will still be hot for this time of the year and mid 90s is not out of the question for a good portion of the area the rest of the work week. Late Friday the center of the high pressure may be just far enough to the east to allow portions of south Mississippi to see a shower or two. Confidence is fairly low we will see any rain and as we move into Sunday things get bleaker from a temperature and rain standpoint. The mid-level ridge will begin to slide back to the west and sit directly over the Lower MS Valley Sunday and early next week. This will continue to provide well above normal temperatures and dry weather.

Given this forecast it looks highly likely that this September will be the hottest September on record for both SE Louisiana and south Mississippi. In addition if this forecast holds true and no more rain occurs, it will also be the driest September on record.
