9/11 – Payton’s Wednesday Tropical Update

FORECAST: Not any big changes in today’s forecast. It will be another hot and humid one with a very low chance for a t-storm. The rest of the week remains mostly sunny, hot and humid. This will start to change this weekend as a tropical wave tries to organize in the Gulf of Mexico.

TROPICS: The chances of a tropical depression or tropical storm developing in the Gulf of Mexico later this week continue to increase. Yes the water is very warm, but you need a lot more than just warm water to get tropical development. Wind shear will be somewhat conducive for development, but not the best. It’s something we need to monitor closely. Regardless of how much this thing organizes it will likely bring rainfall to the Central Gulf Coast by Sunday and Monday. Check back for updates. Next storm name is Humberto.

Two other areas in the Atlantic will have to be monitored for development as well, but that would be into next week. Theses are something to watch long term.
