8/15 – Payton’s Tuesday Afternoon Forecast

Showers and thunderstorms have developed across the area as an unstable and very tropical air mass continues to dominate across the Mississippi Gulf Coast, with an area of high-pressure over NE’tern Gulf of Mexico/south Florida. A few upper systems will interact with this general weakness over the next several days with activity on a daily basis along with the THREAT for HEAVY RAINFALL. A weak ridge of high-pressure will decrease rain potential Thur/Fri.

Moisture flow from the W’tern side of (Hurricane) GERT will move to the west, into the region later tin the workweek. An area of low-pressure over Puerto Rice poised to move NW into the GOM, will add to the instability and elevate rainfall for the weekend.

The tropics continue to heat up as we are watching two areas for development over the next week or so. Nothing is a threat to South Mississippi right now, but we will keep a close eye on things and give you updates as needed.
