8/31 – Payton’s Friday Night Forecast

A very active pattern going into Labor Day weekend. This evening and tonight rain chances will continue, so make sure you have the rain gear for your Friday night. The overnight period will introduce better rain chances as an shortwave trough moves in from the south. This will keep rain chances elevated during Saturday and Sunday. At times heavy rain could produce flash flooding. Going into Monday the trough starts to move off to the west, and our attention turns to a tropical wave moving into the Gulf of Mexico. At the moment the wave will encounter high wind shear. This will keep the system from getting organized over the weekend, but by next week around Tuesday-Thursday it will move into a lower shear environment as it enter the Gulf of Mexico. The chances it develops is pretty low, but we will watch it closely. Regardless, it will bring moisture into the Gulf Coast region, and that does mean rain chances continue into next week. Keep checking back for updates.
