8/13 – Payton’s Tuesday Afternoon Forecast

Very dangerous heat this afternoon as heat index values approach 115 in some locations. Because of this we have an EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING for the entire area. This is the type of heat you have to take seriously and plant to not work outside. The only thing that might help today is popup t-storms this afternoon. If you can get under a shower or t-storm it will bring some relief.

Wednesday will be another hot and humid one, but rain chances will go up as a “cold front” approaches the area. This should allow more t-storms to develop by afternoon into the evening. There is a low chance of a few severe t-storms with high winds being the primary threat. Once the front moves through it will slowly filter in some drier air although it’ll still be warm and humid. Heat index values will drop back down to the lower 100s. This weekend looks fairly typical with popup t-storms possible and highs in the lower 90s.

TROPICS: No tropical development is expected over the next five days, but we will keep an eye on the cold front stalling over the northern Gulf of Mexico.
