6/26 – Payton’s Tuesday Afternoon Forecast

Summertime conditions continue across the forecast area. Expect high temps maxing out in the lower/mid 90s, with isolated showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours.

The remainder of this week will basically be the same each day with highs in the lower 90s, heat indices right at to just below heat advisory criteria, and isolated afternoon t-storms. It will be a day to day decision on the need for an advisory.

Moving into the weekend, an upper ridge currently near the desert southwest will track across the midsection of the country this week. As it makes its way towards the Appalachian Mountains, the local area will be in less of a subsidence region. This should allow for noticeable uptick in showers & t-storms & a drop in high temps by a few degrees.

TROPICS: There is a 20% chance of tropical development off the East Coast as we go into the weekend. A non-tropical disturbance moving overland right now could develop tropical characteristics as it moves off the Carolina’s. It will then keep moving out into the open Atlantic.
