5/30 – Payton’s Wednesday Afternoon Forecast

Heavy showers and thunderstorms this morning dumped upwards of five inches in Jackson County.Expect a few of these showers and thunderstorms to continue through the afternoon. This should be the last day of higher moisture content in the  atmosphere for these storms to easily develop in the afternoon. High pressure will start to build in from the west as we go into Thursday, and this ridging will suppress afternoon convection and also push temperatures up into the lower 90s over the next few days. It will be hot for the back half of the week and into the weekend. Daytime highs should easily climb into the middle to possibly mid 90s and heat index values will reach into the lower 100s. The ridge starts to break down on Sunday and rain chances should increase for Sunday into Monday as a boundary moves through the region. Relatively dry air aloft could result in some stronger winds accompanying any of the deeper convective cells that form. High pressure builds back into the region early next week and temperatures will still remain in the low to mid 90s.
