1/9 – Payton’s Tuesday Afternoon Forecast
Patchy fog and low clouds and drizzle continue this afternoon. The low that brought us rain yesterday is well into the eastern Gulf of Mexico. Drier air will move into the mid and upper levels but
low level moisture should be trapped and we will see fog and low
level stratus for the next day or so. A few showers or some
drizzle will be around as well. Will carry some chance of some
showers or drizzle mainly on Wednesday. Expect temperatures to be
around normal for the next few days as well. Another shortwave
will move into the area Thursday into Friday.
The next chance of organized rain looks to be in the forecast
Thursday evening into Friday morning as a front approaches the area. A shortwave in the upper levels will reflect in the lower levels as a surface low developing over the region.
This will in turn break out a large area of showers over the
region. Have increased pops for this time frame. The risk of
thunderstorms looks low as instability is lacking while the low
develops. A front associated with the parent low will move
through Friday and strong cold air advection will follow. Expect
to see highs a good 20 to 25 degrees cooler than on Thursday.
Highs should only climb to around 50 degrees Friday afternoon, and
lingering clouds trapped beneath an elevated inversion will keep
skies mostly cloudy through the day. High pressure moves in for
the weekend. Low rain chances are expected and mostly clear
conditions. Temperatures will once again go below average as
another eastern United States trough sets up again this weekend.
This colder air will NOT be as cold as last week, but freezing temperatures will be likely each morning going through the weekend.
