12/27 Ryan’s “Slight Severe” Thursday Evening Forecast
Christmas was beautiful here on the Gulf Coast, but the potentially severe thunderstorms we’ve been expecting all week are now moving in. This frontal system wasn’t moving very quickly to begin with, and it’s basically slowed to a standstill causing Flash Flooding issues.
For example, an area just North of Bogalusa has seen over 7″ of rainfall due to the main line “training” over that same area for hours, and days of rain are still ahead.
So, while it seems like much of the “severe” threat for the is waning for now, our biggest issue will be continued localized flooding and eventual river flooding by next week. Once the main line and front move through tomorrow morning we’ll see some light clearing in the afternoon until another boundary is pulled through, which will keep significant rain chances in place into the beginning of next week. Residents along river banks should begin taking steps to protect their property as the days of rain here and to the North continue to add up.
