1/31 – Rob Knight’s “Much Warmer” Forecast

Clouds have cleared out for the most part and combined with winds that have waned significantly, temperatures have dipped a little lower than expected. Temperatures will be closer to the climatological norms today with most places reaching into the lower 60s. Temperatures will continue to moderate as we move into the weekend as the extremely cold air that filtered into the mid-west retreats northward and our area settles into a more zonal flow. On Friday, a weak surface low is expected to develop but remain mostly to the south of the area bringing with it rain chances for areas along the coast.

Over the weekend, a combination of disturbances will move in from the Gulf and then from the west will increase our rain chances a bit more. The second system on Saturday will bring more in the way of rain to the area as it tracks more across the forecast area. The beginning of next week looks VERY WARM with the mercury climbing into the low/mid 70s and wet conditions as southwest flow opens the area up to a series of impulses as we wait for a front later in the week to push things out of the area.
