03/05 Ryan’s “Fat” Tuesday Evening Forecast

Happy Fat Tuesday, South Mississippi! Today’s weather was quite pleasant, if not just a bit on the cool side. The afternoon maxed out at 52 degrees, but we’re already under a Freeze Warning as temperatures will fall below freezing. Gulfport and the rest of the waterfront cities will bottom out near 30 degrees, but inland areas will fall into the mid-to-upper 20s. Wind chills as low as 24 aren’t out of the question as the winds die down.

That means cold weather shelters will be open for another night and you should protect your “three Ps:” outdoor pets, sensitive plants, and pipes.

Tomorrow afternoon will warm slightly into the mid 50s, and while tomorrow night will still be chilly we’ll climb above freezing.

This warming trend continues through the weekend, which will also be much more humid as “return flow” begins Thursday and a new frontal system moves in.

This system could bring thunderstorms as we “spring forward” between Saturday and Sunday, but it’s too early to say for certain. Temperatures cool slightly as the next work week begins, but it remains at least partly cloudy and humid through next Tuesday.
