Second Street Social Club prepping for inaugural event

A new Mardi Gras event is taking place this Sunday at Centennial Plaza to bring favorable attention to the history and charm of 2nd Street in Gulfport.

The Second Street Social Club will host their inaugural parade that will form east of the Public Safety Center in downtown Gulfport and roll down 2nd Street to Centennial Plaza.

The event will conclude with a festival from 2 to 5 p.m. on the grounds of Centennial Plaza featuring local musicians.

The club will also be raising funds and collecting canned goods during the day for the non-profit Feed my Sheep. Second Street Social Club Organizer Matt McDonnell said, “It has become a very big neighborhood event, for not 2nd Street, but for other neighborhoods. Front yard parties going on that day on 2nd Street and it will all culminate at Centennial Plaza.”

The parade will kick off at 1 p.m. No floats over 12 feet in height will be allowed to ride. Tickets to the concert for non-members is $20 at the door. For more information on the Second Street Social Club, visit their Facebook page.
