Mostly quiet weekend before rain chances return

Meteorologist Sam Lucey has a look at the week ahead

Expect plenty of sunshine Saturday and Sunday with afternoon highs near 90 degrees and warm, muggy nights in the upper 70s.

While the weekend stays mostly dry, a few isolated showers or storms could develop late Sunday afternoon as moisture begins to increase ahead of our next weather pattern change.

Rain and storm chances ramp up significantly starting Monday. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop during the afternoon and evening, with coverage increasing even more on Tuesday. At this point, Tuesday looks to be the wettest day of the week, with widespread showers and thunderstorms likely throughout the day.

Rainfall totals could top 1-3 inches, with locally higher amounts of 4-6 inches possible as well. We will have a marginal to slight risk for excessive rainfall during this time.

The unsettled pattern lingers through midweek with daily opportunities for showers and storms into Friday.

Although temperatures will cool slightly thanks to the increased cloud cover and rainfall early in the week, highs will return to the upper 80s and low 90s late in the week, provided we get a little more sunshine to return.
