Women of Wisdom preparing for annual first responders appreciation meal delivery
GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- As we approach the 25th anniversary of 9/11, a local nonprofit is making sure the men and women who protect our communities feel appreciated.
Women of Wisdom will deliver meals to thousands of first responders across the Mississippi Gulf Coast this Friday.
This Friday marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. So, for the eighth straight year Women of Wisdom is honoring the men and women who answer emergency calls every day.
Meals and gifts will be delivered to 33 public safety departments across Harrison, Hancock, and Jackson counties. Women of Wisdom Co-Director of Media and Engagement Julia Lloyd said, “So the event day will take place between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at latest. We have volunteers who will be picking up bagged items and things for the departments they are serving or bringing the meals to, and they will be going to, if they’re going to stay and serve departments, they will be staying, setting up tables, and serving the personnel who come by to receive a meal. Those who are dropping off the items and meals needed will visit with the departments for a few minutes and then drop off the meal and show our appreciation.”
From fire departments and police departments to sheriff’s offices, nearly 2,700 first responders will be recognized.
This year, the organization is also extending its thanks to the K9s helping keep the Mississippi Gulf Coast safe.
For many involved, the event is a reminder of the sacrifices these officials make. “So, seeing that they were honored and recognized for the way they put their life on the line for serving the community touched me in a way that honestly I haven’t felt before.”
WOW says it hopes to continue growing the event and reach even more departments in the years ahead.
