Mostly quiet tonight, but showers and storms move back in on Saturday

Meteorologist Sam Lucey has a look at the week ahead

Rain chances will continue to increase overnight as an area of low pressure moves north across the Gulf Coast. A few showers and thunderstorms are possible this evening, but more widespread rain is expected toward daybreak Saturday. Overnight lows will only fall into the mid 70s with a breezy southeast wind.

Saturday looks to be the wettest day with showers and thunderstorms likely throughout much of the day. Some locations could pick up between 1-3 inches of rainfall, with locally higher amounts possible where thunderstorms repeatedly move over the same areas. High temperatures will stay in the lower 80s due to the cloud cover and rain.

Rain and storm chances continue Saturday night and into Sunday. While Sunday won’t be a complete washout, scattered showers and thunderstorms remain likely, especially during the morning and midday hours. Temperatures will climb into the mid-80s between rounds of rain.

Monday and Tuesday bring a mix of clouds and sunshine with lower rain chances and highs returning to the upper 80s. By midweek, summertime heat begins to build back in, with temperatures approaching 90 degrees by Thursday and Friday. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms will remain possible, but many areas will stay dry.

If you have outdoor plans this weekend, keep a close eye on the forecast and have a backup indoor option ready. Any thunderstorm could produce heavy downpours, gusty winds, and frequent lightning.
