Gulf Ship to invest $43 million in Gulfport shipyard

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- A shipbuilding company with a presence here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast is expanding its Gulfport operations.

Governor Tate Reeves and the Mississippi Development Authority announced that Gulf Ship plans to invest more than $43 million into operations at the yard on Glascock Drive, which in turn will create about 121 new jobs.

The jobs and expansion will help the company expand production capacity and help meeting growing demand for U.S. built commercial and government vessels.

Senator Roger Wicker released a statement on the news, saying that moves like these from companies show that Mississippi continues to be a leader in America’s current shipbuilding boom.
