Man charged in deadly hit and run in Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Miss. (WXXV)- Long Beach police have made an arrest in connection to a deadly hit and run this past weekend.

Eric Smith is charged with leaving the scene of an accident-causing death. The hit-and-run happened the morning of August 30.

Smith is accused of hitting Jimmy Mero with his car, and not stopping to render aid or call for help.

Mero later died from his injuries at an area hospital.

Smith is currently being held at the Harrison County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
