Memorial receives five-star ratings for excelling in pacemaker procedure

Memorial Hospital honored their team for achieving Healthgrades’s five-star rating for excelling in pacemaker procedures and carotid procedures.

Healthgrades evaluate approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide to assess hospital performance in 31 common conditions and procedures.

These analyses show that patients treated at hospitals receiving a five-star rating have a lower risk of mortality and a lower risk of experiencing one or more complications during a hospital stay than if they were treated at hospitals receiving a lower rating in that procedure or condition. Cardiac and Critical Care Services Director Holly Rodriguez said, “It’s very important. It absolutely improves the quality of life for our patients. Patients needing pacemakers often feel very tired. They don’t have a lot of energy. They just have a better quality of life. For patients that need carotid surgeries they are at risk of having a stroke. So, typically when they have that procedure it reduces that risk for them.”

Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality.
