Local law enforcement agencies kicking off 2026 ‘Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign
If you’re hitting the road for Labor Day, you’ll want to pay close attention.
Law enforcement agencies across Mississippi are stepping up enforcement against impaired drivers as part of the national ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign.
Starting August 19th and running through September 7th, covering the Labor Day travel period, Mississippi Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies will be cracking down on impaired drivers across the state.
The goal is simple, get drunk drivers off the road and help keep Mississippians safe this Labor Day.
On average, nearly 12,000 people are killed in an alcohol impaired driving accident each year nationwide. That’s about 32 people every day or one person every 44 minutes.
MHP’s enforcement isn’t limited to looking for a driver who is clearly drunk. Troopers are trained to watch for signs of impairment, including erratic driving, sudden speed changes, and other behavior that can signal a driver is not safe behind the wheel.
Mississippi law considers a blood-alcohol concentration of .08 or higher to be a DUI for drivers of legal drinking age.
Troopers say you don’t have to wait until you’re over the legal limit to make the safe choice. If alcohol is part of your plans, make your ride home part of the plan, too.
