Amtrak Mardi Gras service celebrates one year anniversary

The Amtrak Mardi Gras Service celebrated its first anniversary after a year of connecting communities along the Coast.

One year down and the Amtrak Mardi Gras Service is still rolling. With 150,000 customer trips expected this week, the service allows passengers to avoid traffic and simply enjoy the ride. “I am having the best time of my life! This is my first time riding an Amtrak train, and so far, the train ride has been absolutely great. The ride has been smooth; I’m loving all this room that I have for my legs. We’re just having a great time here.”

Amtrak says the route has exceeded ridership and revenue expectations, while ranking among its highest-scoring services for customer satisfaction. Amtrak Director of Government Affairs Todd Stennis said, “When you go in a business or restaurant in any of these communities and they talk about the number of people coming into their restaurants, hotels, and businesses they say they rode Amtrak to Gulfport, or they rode Amtrak to Bay St. Louis, or Biloxi, or Pascagoula. I think that’s the impact, and that’s the impact we wanted to hear about.”

The twice-daily service runs between New Orleans and Mobile with four stops along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Riders received a commemorative certificate, first anniversary pin, and logo cup to mark the milestone.
