HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)–Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office has ruled that use of force was justified in a June 2025 deputy-involved shooting in Saucier.

The June 11, 2025 shooting involved a Harrison County sheriff’s deputy, and was the culmination of an hours-long standoff between law enforcement and a suspect, later identified as Jason Simmons, who was being served a court order.

The county’s SWAT unit responded to the scene, as Simmons barricaded himself inside a shed.

The standoff ended after Simmons pointed a gun towards  SWAT members, which led to an exchange of gunfire.

Simmons died in the exchange, while no deputies were injured.

Pursuant to Section 45-1-6 of the Mississippi Code, the review of this case followed an investigation by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
