Homeless families enjoy a free Thanksgiving

Everyone deserves a full stomach this Thanksgiving holiday including the less fortunate.
A group of homeless and families-in-need got to enjoy a nice plate of hot holiday food in Pascagoula this afternoon. The free meal is an annual event put on by Prestigious Brothers and Sisters of Jackson County. IG Levy Park North was filled with delicious Thanksgiving favorites from cornbread and turkey dressing to sweet rolls.
Darlene Smith, a Pascagoula woman attending, tells New 25 the complimentary meal is very helpful to those who are homeless or just going through a rough time. “It means a lot to me and I’m sure a lot to those other people who are unfortunately just going through a hard time right now. I feel very blessed. There’s a lot of people who just lost their jobs and a lot of people think that homelessness doesn’t affect them, but some people are just a check away from being in our predicament and things like this are very helpful.”
Members of the community stepped in to help cook. Food donations, coats, and blankets were also accepted at the event.
