Drier tonight with less rain around on Friday

Meteorologist Sam Lucey has a look at the week ahead

Numerous roads became impassable, several water rescues were reported, and scattered tree damage occurred as torrential rain overwhelmed drainage systems. While the rain has ended, flooding remains a concern as rivers and creeks continue to rise.

Expect South Mississippi to settle back into a more typical summer weather pattern after today’s heavy rain. A few showers and thunderstorms will remain possible tonight, with some locally heavy downpours before activity gradually decreases overnight.

Not everyone will see rain each day, but any storm that develops could produce brief heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and frequent lightning.

For Friday and the weekend, expect a mix of sunshine, heat, humidity, and scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms. High temperatures will climb into the upper 80s to lower 90s each day, while heat index values could reach 105 to 110 degrees!

Looking ahead to early next week, rain chances become a bit lower, with more sunshine and highs in the lower 90s. However, isolated to scattered afternoon thunderstorms will remain possible each day as the typical Gulf Coast summer pattern continues.
