Mississippi joins new fraud prevention task force

Mississippi is joining a new regional effort to crack down on fraud.

State officials, including the treasurer, secretary of state, AG, and auditor, helped launch the Southeast Regional Fraud Enforcement partnership, bringing together investigators from Mississippi and six other states.

Attorney General Lynn Fitch also announced her office has been awarded more than $2.5 million to create ‘Joint Task Force Vigilance.’

The regional task force will add prosecutors, a law enforcement officer, and a legal analyst to target fraud, human trafficking, drug crimes, and crimes involving people in the country illegally.

A formal announcement on the task force is expected in August.
