New electric crane to be installed at Port of Gulfport
GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- A new hybrid harbor crane will be installed soon at the Port of Gulfport, part of an effort to expand cargo capacity and modernize operations at the port.
SSA Marine and the port say the new crane can lift up to 124 metric tons of cargo.
The port also received a $1.6 million state grant to help build the infrastructure needed to run the hybrid crane on electric power.
This specific crane will primarily handle bulk cargo for the Chemours De Lisle facility, including a raw material used to produce white titanium dioxide pigment.
Port officials say the investment will improve efficiency and help attract future business.
