City of Biloxi opens three sand bag locations
BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV)- The City of Biloxi has opened sandbag locations for city residents.
Three self-serve sites are now open at 195 Main Street, the AJ Holloway Sports Complex, and Fire Station 9 on Oaklawn Drive.
These sites are open 24 hours a day until Friday for anyone who needs them. You should bring your own shovel.
We spoke with city leaders about the decision behind opening these locations for residents. City of Biloxi Public Affairs Manager Cecilia Dobbs Walton said, “In the City of Biloxi we have a lot of residents and businesses that live in low lying areas. So, putting out sandbag locations is just a way to help prepare the public and the business owners ahead of time. Being in low lying areas that means water will come up fast on your property, so sand bag locations are out there in three different locations in Biloxi. So, you can go out 24 hours a day scoop your own sand, put it in the bags and put them wherever you need around your house to prevent the water from going in your house.”
