The Mississippi Aquarium celebrates Earth Day by recycling Mardi Gras beads

The Mississippi Aquarium celebrated Earth Day be sending more than 10,000 pounds of Mardi Gras beads and trinkets to be recycled at the Arc of Greater New Orleans, thanks to a partnership with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and the community.

Along with the bead donation, the aquarium asked some of its partners to celebrate the bead drive and Earth Day by planting plants in their monarch butterfly pollinator garden.

Rachel Bond and Pinehill Nursey graciously donated the plants. MS Aquarium President and CEO Kurt Allen said, “Everybody should look at how they can do their part in managing our environment. Earth is in a very critical stage right now. So, what can we do whether it is recycling or whatever you think you can do to help.  Earth Day is the day to really reflect to figure out what you can do today.”

The Mississippi Aquarium’s recycling program goes hand in hand with their three mission pillars: education, conservation, and community.
