Trevues Martin murder trial delayed
The murder trial of Trevues Martin is on hold today after the defendants reportedly showed up to the court with the same lawyer.
In September 2016, 20-year-old Martin was found dead on Monterey Drive in the front seat of his vehicle just hours before his 21st birthday.
Gulfport police arrested Deandre Ball after he turned himself in for the murder of Martin. In 2017, Gulfport police arrested Kalisha Crockett in connection with the case. Crockett was charged with accessory after the fact of murder.
News 25 spoke with Trevues’ mother and father. They say the trial is being delayed due to Crockett and Ball not having separate lawyers. The judge offered Crockett 10 years and Ball 20 years before ordering them to find different lawyers.
Now years later, Treveus’ parents are frustrated with this delay and are still looking for closure. Tatasha Martin, Treveus’ mother, said, “This has been going on for too long now and it should have been taken care of. I don’t understand what the process is. I don’t understand what’s going on. It should have been taken care of. We’re frustrated.”
Corey Young, Treveus’ father, said, “Let’s close this justice part and let’s begin to heal these lives because there is more than her, there’s two more children, and then I don’t know what goes on with me, but I know that there is a hole in my heart as well.”
Crockett now has three weeks to find a different lawyer than Ball.
