St. Martin remains undefeated with 45-15 win over Stone

Our WXXV Game Ball of the Week Matchup by Ball Heating and Air brought us to Joe Barlow Stadium where St. Martin is looking to remain undefeated and Stone is hoping to bounce back after a Week Two loss.

The Yellow Jackets wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. On the opening play of the game, sophomore quarterback Dawsen Sullivan connected with senior tight end Bryson Meaut along the sideline for a quick first down. After a Stone defensive stop on a Seth Crockett quarterback keeper, Sullivan took matters into his own hands. The sophomore quarterback called his own number, found the edge and raced 62 yards for a touchdown, giving St. Martin a 7-0 lead in less than two minutes of game time.

Stone senior quarterback Zander Howard showed off his legs on the ensuing possession, picking up a first down with a strong run. Howard would do it again moments later, using a fake handoff before taking off for another big gain and moving the chains. However, the Tomcats couldn’t turn the drive into points.

Back on offense, Sullivan continued to make plays through the air. He connected with Seth Crockett for another first down before finding Danarious Shelby on a tough catch to keep the drive moving. Then came another big play from Sullivan — this time to his twin brother. Sullivan launched a pass downfield into tight coverage, and his brother Dawsey Sullivan came down with an impressive diving catch in tight coverage for another Yellow Jackets touchdown. The score gave St. Martin a 14-0 advantage in the first quarter.

The game was later interrupted by a weather delay, but the Yellow Jackets remained in control when play resumed. St. Martin went on to defeat Stone 45-14 and remain undefeated on the season.

The Yellow Jackets will hit the road next week to take on Hancock, while Stone will have a bye week.
