6/11 – Payton’s Monday Afternoon Forecast
A weak shortwave is slowly tracking across the Ohio River Valley. This has eroded what was left of any ridge aloft and will allow for scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop today. The activity will begin this morning with the majority of showers/t-storms this afternoon as daytime heating will aid in development. The theme of higher precipitation chances will continue this week as the shortwave slowly track across the Appalachian Mountains to the east coast Monday night Similar conditions are likely through Thursday and a serious of daily shortwaves race east across the mid-section of the country.
Models suggest the ridge west of the region will track towards the center of the midsection of the country late this week and into the weekend. At the same time, a westerly moving plume of tropical moisture will come out of the Caribbean and track across the western Gulf of Mexico. At the moment, the mostly likely local impact will be an extended wet period with one or two days of heavy rain possible.
