1/14 – Cold tonight with frost possible

Meteorologist Sam Lucey has a look at your forecast

We have a chilly night on tap as skies clear out tonight, setting the stage for a dry and mostly sunny stretch of weather through the rest of the work week.

Overnight temperatures will regularly dip into the low to mid-30s, leading to widespread frost on many mornings, especially late week and into early next week. Afternoon highs will remain cool but seasonable, generally in the 50s or upper 40s.

Sunshine dominates through Friday when clouds begin to increase ahead of our next front moving through on Saturday. Behind the cold front, we’ll have an upper level piece of energy moving into the southeast on Saturday night with the chance for rain increasing. There are some models hinting at the potential for a wintry mix or full transition to snow, but not all of them are in agreement, so this is a tricky forecast. We need to have cold air in place before the moisture arrives in order to see a wintry mix or snow, otherwise it will be all rain as that piece of energy moves through. So we will continue to fine tune that forecast with a better idea of what will happen by Thursday night.

Temperatures will gradually moderate early next week, climbing into the upper 50s to lower 60s at times, but generally remaining close to “normal”. Despite the milder afternoons, clear skies and light winds will continue to allow for cold starts each morning, so sensitive plants may need protection from the elements.
