Meggan Monday: Looking ahead to Fat Tuesday and Ash Wednesday

We’re coming off a big weekend of parades across South Mississippi and we have a busy week to come as we participate in the revelry of Fat Tuesday and begin the Lenten Season on Ash Wednesday.

On Ash Wednesday, many of you will head to churches across South Mississippi to get ashes on your forehead, one of the ways Christians mark the beginning of lent, the season of reflection and repentance.

Grace Lutheran Church continues its tradition of providing ashes to go Wednesday morning beginning at 6:30 in the parking lot next to the Jim Simpson Pier in Long Beach.

Catholic churches on the Coast will also distribute ashes during Ash Wednesday masses and other Christian denominations will also hold Ash Wednesday services. Check with your parish or church for specific service times.
