09/23 Ryan’s “Fall” Monday Afternoon Forecast
The first full day of fall still feels like summer, but that'll change by the end of the week for a short time.
Fall officially arrived Sunday morning just after sunrise as the equinox occurred, making today the first full day of fall 2024! If you’ve lived in South MS for any amount of time, you know it’s going to take a little longer for any fall-like weather to arrive. Thankfully though, we’ll get a taste of it later this week after a front!
That means today will still feel a bit like summer out there, especially in the afternoon. This morning’s low will fall into the upper 60s again for the inland counties, with coastal areas staying near the mid 70s. That’ll still be close enough to the dewpoint for another misty morning with a few areas of patchy fog, but we’ll warm quickly away from that to another higher-than-average afternoon around 90 on the coast. So, it’ll still feel a bit like summer despite the drier air overhead. Expect these conditions to hold steady until the middle of the week when our first fall front arrives, bringing showers and thunderstorms ahead of a noticeable weekend cool-down.
The latest on the tropics shows good news for South MS. The front that’ll bring cooler weather by the end of the week is also expected to keep what is now Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine away from South MS, though it’ll likely turn tropical as early as tomorrow. Current path has it heading into the panhandle/Big Bend area of Florida as a possible major hurricane, but be aware there is still some wiggle room, so be sure to stay tuned to WXXV News 25 for the latest.
