St. Patrick Catholic high school wins 4th MHSAA 3A All-Sports award
It’s not every year that your high school gets recognized as the best in the state, but St. Patrick Catholic high school and their athletic department were recently awarded the MHSAA class 3A All-Sports award for this last school year.
The award is designed to identify the top schools in the state in overall athletic performances for the given school year. The winners are decided by a point-based system in which schools are rewarded for both reaching the post-season and advancing once their teams get in.
Here’s the point break down…
State championships are worth 30 points, placing second at state gets you 25 team points, and reaching the semifinals earns your school 20 points. In addition to getting points for advancing, any team that reaches the post-season is awarded some points.
This past year, St. Patrick brought home three state titles. Boys cross country, girls soccer, and girls track all were crowned state champions last season. All of which helped earn, not only the most points for a 3A school in Mississippi, but the most points for any school of any classification in the Magnolia state with 375.
Sports 25 had the chance to speak with Irish athletic director Keith Robinson to find out what the formula for success has been in recent years for St. Patrick athletics.
“Well, success leads to more success.,” he said. “The kids that come in behind the successful teams want to continue that. You want to be the best you can be. Our emphasis, our attitude, and our philosophy is pretty simple thing. We want our kids to give their very best effort, we want to support them 100% as a school, and as coaches we will do anything in the world to make this work for them. That seems to be the formula that works the best.”
Robinson added that he is looking forward to trying to bring the award home for a fifth time this upcoming school year.
