Residents celebrate at 40th annual Blueberry Jubilee in Poplarville
In Poplarville, thousands flooded into the downtown area for a ‘berry’ good time!
The 40th annual Blueberry Jubilee featured all things blueberries. Local farmers sold out fast on Saturday afternoon from the high demand. The festival showcased cars, live music, and fun for the kids all weekend long.
The city is coined the blueberry capital of the state for the many blueberry farms in Pearl River County.
One local farmer shares with us why the fruit grows so well here. Jeff Brown with JD Farms said, “The acidic soil. So, you need about 3.5 to 4.5 in your acidity and we have that red clay which I think is ideal for blueberries.”
Lana Bagaley said, “So many people come out to the Blueberry Jubilee. Like, people come from all over Mississippi and some from out of state, visiting family or friends or just to check out the town.”
2024 Little Miss Blueberry Charleigh Mistretta said, “Very exciting! Last year, I got second alternate and this year I won and it was really great.”
