9/9 – Payton’s Sunday Night Forecast

A cold front just to the north means we’ll have showers and thunderstorm chance for your Monday, but the heaviest rain should remain off to the north near the front. The same continues into your Tuesday. Into the remainder of the week the rain chances start to decrease and that trend continues into the weekend.

TROPICS: The tropics have become extremely active. Hurricane Florence will threaten the East Coast later this week likely as a major hurricane. Hurricane Helene will threaten the Cabo Verde Islands, but will fortunately go out into the open Atlantic later this week. Now recently Hurricane Isaac will likely  impact the Less Antilles around Thursday. From there we’ll have to keep an eye on Isaac, but right now it looks like it will dissipate as it moves into the Caribbean. We’ll watch it closely though. Another disturbance in the Caribbean will move into the Western Gulf of Mexico this week and has a very low chance of development. The peak of hurricane season takes place over the next couple days and boy it’s reminding us.
