9/7 – Rob Knight’s Friday Morning Forecast

TD Gordon continues to move slowly north across Arkansas today and then northeastward into southeast Missouri and southern Illinois tonight into Saturday. Weak high-pressure will build over the central Gulf coast region today into Saturday. Deeper moisture will remain in place today, however some drier air to the east will start to work into eastern portions of the forecast area today and much of the area on Saturday. While heavy rain and a few stronger thunderstorms cannot be ruled out today, the threat today is much lower.

The remains of Gordon is expected to continue to track northeast on Sunday while having merged with a frontal boundary that will sag southeast through the mid-Mississippi valley and southern plains into the lower Mississippi valley. This will bring numerous showers and thunderstorms into the northern and western portion of the region Sunday afternoon. Once again, a few stronger thunderstorms and locally heavy rainfall will be possible, and the Weather Prediction Center has a Marginal Risk of Excessive Rainfall on the Day 3/Sunday and Sunday night. This scenario will continue through much of next week.
