9/24 – Payton’s Monday Afternoon Forecast

Clouds and rain today will keep temperatures pretty seasonal in the upper 80s. There will be a chance of on & off showers and thunderstorms throughout the day and even into the overnight period. This trend will continue through most of the week. By Wednesday a cold front will start to approach the area and will get very close before it starts to slow down. This should happen sometime Wednesday afternoon/night. That means cloud coverage and rain chances will elevate Wednesday as the front gets closer. It looks like it will stall somewhere in the area, which means no drier or cooler air. Into Thursday and into the weekend on and off showers and thunderstorms will be possible in the area as another cold front approaches this weekend. It will be similar to what we see Wednesday. It won’t bring any tremendous relief.

TROPICS: Kirk has dissipated into an open trough and while still producing thunderstorms it’s no longer considered a tropical cyclone. It could reorganize later this week as it moves toward the Caribbean.  It doesn’t appear the atmosphere will be conducive for development. We’ll keep an eye on it though. Subtropical Storm Leslie will dissipate over the open Atlantic over the next few days. A disturbance south of Bermuda has a medium chance of development, but isn’t expected to become anything major. It could bring more rain to the Carolinas.
